Franz Kafka would have loved this story. Lock up a schmoe swept up for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, hold him without charges for 7 or 8 years, torture him and humiliate him in a style only Stazi and KGB role models, not those bone-breaking Gestapo guys, could inspire. Then, when one of your victims fantasizes cutting you up for dog meat if he ever gets out of the hell-hole you have thrown him in, you crow: "See? See what a clear and present danger this terrorist poses to the American way of life?"
