Editor,
I watched "The Sorrow and the Pity" this week, about Vichy France during the German occupation in WWII. One sequence almost made me fall out of my chair the light bulb over my head went on so fast: rallying the support of bourgeois France for collaboration with the Nazis under the banner of fighting Bolshevism. This tactic was also used by the fascists in 1920's Italy and of course the Nazis in 1930's Germany.
So when Tea Bags cry "socialism" to hoodwink politically naive American centrists into supporting their extreme right-wing agenda, it is illuminating to remember that red baiting has a long, inglorious history among "job creators" whose job it is to destroy democracy and sow misery and death among the elements of society they deem undesirable.
