How things work.

Environmental catastrophe will wipe our civilization out quickly and unexpectedly, basically because the ruling class is too busy making money to address its rampant destruction of the life support systems on our planet.

Until then we will be under the thumb of an increasingly authoritarian economic and political hegemon whose sole aim is dominion by any means. This has happened before hundreds if not thousands of times throughout history.

Strongmen rule by brutal repression, theft, violence, torture -- whatever it takes to stay in power. Look at the Mafia, the Corsican mob, the Argentine Junta, Pinochet. The list is endless and stretches back as far into history as records can be found.

Starving minions, imprisoned dissenters, destroyed communities, murdered populations do not cross the minds of the beneficiaries of a fascist status quo. Rulers do not think about what their opulence costs the little people or other living things or the planet Earth. They think about their bottom line.

This is how things work when psychopaths achieve their dreams.
