"We will elevate America by destroying it."

Editor,

Mitt Romney's speech, and especially the shots of people in the crowd wildly cheering his platitudes and fabricated facts, gave me the feeling I was watching a dystopic science fiction movie in which a thoroughly brainwashed population destroy themselves, the world, and everybody else.

His 5-point plan was a ludicrous list of pie-in-the sky fantasies with absolutely zero road map how to make them real. Hearing it was positively frightening.

The scariest thing he said, the window for me into the incipient totalitarian process the Republican Party represents, was that the US military -- in the spirit of a Project for a New American Century neocon fever dream -- will be so powerful no one will dare to challenge it.

Mythologizing an imaginary past, designating American billionaires small businessmen and declaring their entitlement to dominate the world, eulogizing the strong who have not yet been cannibalized by financial capital, consigning the weak to church steps.

We will elevate America by destroying it, educate your kids by firing their teachers, heal the sick by taking away their health insurance.

It is a mad vision thoroughly divorced from reality, designed solely to game an electoral system that still demands that a demagogue acquire, by hook or by crook, a specific number of votes, a formality that thankfully has not been dispensed with yet.
