Again and Again.

Editor,

A worldview built on ethical trivialities to the effect that "individuals are responsible for what they do" and "bad people grab excuses to do bad things" may feel so personally satisfying as to obviate the need to educate oneself with respect to sequences of events that empower "bad people to do bad things."

Deliberate ignorance that the American electorate justifies with reference to vague generalities about "personal responsibility" and "bad people" is precisely what empowers decision-makers in Washington to make terrible foreign policy and military choices again and again, leading again and again to blowback that threatens the USA and its friends around the world.
