No!

Editor,

Science does not compromise with ideology, and neither should the people of planet Earth.

There is no reason why free market demagogues, who shout free market words while seeing to it that markets everywhere are anything but free, should be given veto power over urgently necessary changes to the way humanity interacts with the environment.

Right-wing ideologues and the big-money players they carry water for have one abiding interest: that the people at the top of the money/power pyramid today will be on top tomorrow.

This is why they have been killing people all over the world since you and I were born, and it is why at best their "plan" will dither at the margins until New York City floats out to sea.

There is no magic, unknown, yet-to-be-discovered technology that will solve the problem of global warming. The technologies exist today. What is lacking is the political will to stand nose-to-nose with the people who will gladly sacrifice your grandchildren's future to ride around in a limousine tonight and say:

"No! We are not going to trade pollution credits. We are going to tax you. And we are going to spend the money you pay on replacing fossil fuels with clean energy."

Call me a socialist and you make my point. The natural forces we are up against do not care about who has how much money.
