Millions of Americans decided long ago that they would gladly toss their car keys in the trash, but oil and auto industry lobbyists and their political lackeys have seen to it that, with the exception of a meager novelty here and there, alternative means of transportation have not been built. The same can be said of home heating, foolishly reliant on natural gas and oil, when passive solar technologies, understood for decades, are conveniently ignored by builders.
