Gerald Ford and Henry Kissinger gave the green light to President Suharto, military dictator of Indonesia, to invade East Timor in 1975. Suharto's forces subsequently massacred one third of the civilian population of East Timor using American-supplied arms.

Why do mainstream media not mention this to the American people? If Americans knew American history, they would be wary of militarists, as Eisenhower cautioned, and would prevent catastrophes such as the occupation of Iraq by electing leaders committed to social and economic justice here and overseas.
