Mr. Obama needs to read the NYT best seller "The Political Mind: Why you can't understand 21st-century American politics with an 18th-century brain" by George Lakoff, the thesis of which is that the terms in which a debate are framed can be changed (his point) but that how that debate is framed defines the terms in which policy can be cast.
Republican framing must be recognized and challenged (gently is OK, but directly and instantly are essential), otherwise debate is merely another word for emotional manipulation and is useless.
