Editor,
The president got on the wrong track when he agreed to a so-called stimulus that was too small and consisted mainly of tax cuts. That is when he lost politically to the Republicans. They found out just how weak he is, and it has been all downhill since then.
I remember him remarking at the time that people in the big cities on the coasts tend not to realize how vast this country is and how differently so many people see things.
That was his mistake. He was so afraid of ruffling feathers and having to lead, as opposed to chairing a debate between various factions with different points of view, that he didn't get out there, laugh in the face of stupid right-wing ideology, and educate the American public to 21st century economics.
Maybe he is not that good of an economist. He certainly surrounded himself with advisers who do not understand how depressions work, their causes, or how to bootstrap out of them.
Well, it's all water over the damn now. The lunatics (right-wing fanatics) are running the asylum, and it is only a matter of time before even people who are rich today are starving in the streets of a once-great country that has been completely destroyed by ignorant fools.
Wait. I take back the bit about the rich. The rich will be richer. Everyone else will starve.
