Editor,
We are going backwards.
After the fall of the Roman empire, feudal war lords lorded over their domains, and barely subsisting peasants worked for them.
Fast forward to the 18th century, and you have history's first attempts at self-rule since stone-age hunter-gatherer tribes.
Now we have corporate barons who have figured out how to game the democratic system. They own the media, pumping nonsense into the heads of the hoi polloi; they own government via campaign cash and lobbyists; and they own the lion's share of the money. And the cops. They own the cops.
Everyone who doesn't now soon will work for them.
You are expecting the lord of the manor to lavish comfort on his serfs?
Ridiculous.
