Your job.

Editor,

Titans of industry have no problem being chauffeured from elegant room to elegant room through a sea of poverty, provided the miserable beggars enveloping them are properly monitored by an omnipresent intelligence network and disciplined by brutal and heavily armed police.

Bootstrapping a middle class in China is the fever dream of American business. Then constantly whining, uppity American workers, always agitating for their "benefits" and their "rights," will be able to be cut loose altogether.

You think there is moral compunction at the top of the socioeconomic ladder?

Do you believe in the Tooth Fairy?

The goal at the top is to replace the American workforce with an army of offshore peasants who are used to standing with head bowed, keeping their mouths shut, and being grateful for whatever crumbs their war lords deign to grant them.

This American "democracy" and "middle class experiment" was not for the benefit of a middle class. It was a model grounded in consumerism -- for which you need consumers.

Tomorrow's consumers are in China.

You don't need a job.

You expect too much from your boss for working it.
