Editor,
External powers seizing on domestic conflict in Syria to advance their regional strategic aims has resulted in millions of individual peoples' lives being reduced to suffering and chaos if not lost outright. Children orphaned, parents bereft, refugees surviving or succumbing to unimaginable horrors.
Syria is just one example of how inconsequential individual human beings' lives are in the grandiose games powerful people play to outfox and dominate each other.
Every now and then you read about a ruler somewhere in history who truly loved humanity and a brief respite for a number of generations during which he presided over relative peace and calm. Sadly, this is not one of those times.
Naked greed and brutality rule our time, and luck decides whether the spot on which one's life unfolds is consumed by chaos or spared for the time being by the money god's representatives here on Earth.
